What is Gammatex?

Gammatex is a fabric designed by and made exclusively for T.A.S Australia P/ltd, which has taken over 14 months of development to create.

Gammatex us a waterproof fabric that breathes which will help to alleviate moisture build up inside the bag. It does this through a unique three-layer fabric system with the core being a TPU membrane, which will breathe at a rate of a minimum 500gsm/24hrs per square meter. This membrane is sandwiched in between the outer and inner fabrics, which forms the basis of our three-layer fabric.

TAS Australia P/ltd has created a waterproof outer shell with a 10000 water head rating combined with great breathability. To further ensure waterproof we have taped all major stitching points with a waterproof tape, added a storm flap over the zips and used more generous cut to create a large bivy bag.

How does Gammatex really work?

Its quite simple but intricate to create. Its works by the pressure inside the bivy bag being greater than that outside the bivy bag. The pressure is created through temperature, which means the inside of the bivy bag is warmer than the outside. We also know the body gives off moisture through the skin and this moisture is moving away from the skin to reach the outer part if the bag. The Gammatex membrane allows this moisture to move through the fabric to outer part of the bivy bag while at the same time not allowing any water to penetrate the outer shell. Gammatex works well in condition, which is mild to cold, and even though it would work, Gammatex would be far less effective in the tropics where generally temperatures are above 25 degrees.
