The aluminum body, rotor and side cover of the Pflueger Contender Spinning Reels are deep anodized and electrostatically painted to deliver optimum corrosion protection. This all-metal construction keeps gears and other internal components in perfect alignment even when fighting hard running game fish. Strong and positive with 30 ratchet stops, the anti-reverse system in Contender reels is always on.
By eliminating the on/off switch we have also eliminated a hole in the reel body thus preventing salt water from entering the reel. The machined and anodized aluminum handle is easily converted from left to right hand retrieve. Five high quality stainless steel ball bearings provide ultra smooth, long lasting performance. Both main gear bearings and a pinion gear bearing are fully sealed to prevent water, sand or debris from entering the bearing area.
The front drag in all Contenders offer a wide range of adjustment, smooth operation and plenty of power. A hard-chrome plated brass pinion gear and a gold plated main gear deliver both a smooth and powerful retrieve and long lasting operation. Most internal components are either stainless steel or hard chromed brass.
